Retainers
A retainer holds your teeth where they ended up when braces, aligners or an early stage are done. Teeth can drift without one. Dr. Aceves tells you which kind she suggests, and how long to wear it.
What happens
A retainer is fitted at the last check, then looked at every few months.
- 01
Step 1: The last check
She decides the teeth are where the plan said and tells you what retainer she suggests.
- 02
Step 2: The fitting
A scan or impression, then a retainer made for your mouth, which we fit and check.
- 03
Step 3: Wearing it
Sonya tells you how many hours a day, for how long, and how to clean it.
- 04
Step 4: Follow-ups
A look every few months at first, then when you'd like one.
A lost or broken retainer is a phone call, not a reason to wait. Call and we'll say what to do.
Comfort, choices and care
Comfort
A new retainer feels tight at first. That settles in a few days. Ask us to stop at any point.
If you wait
Without a retainer teeth can move. How far and how fast varies, and she'll show you on your scan.
Risks and after-care
Retainers need cleaning. A fixed one needs careful flossing around it. Pets chew them, so keep the case close.
How it's billed
The first set is part of your treatment fee, and replacements are quoted in writing. Kerri reads your plan's benefits first.
How fees work
Questions about retainers
How long do I wear a retainer?
She tells you at your last check. It depends on your teeth and the kind of retainer.
What if I lose it?
Call us the same day if you can. We'll say what to do and quote a new one in writing.
Do I still see you after treatment?
Yes, for a look every few months at first, then when you'd like one.
